Hello everyone,
I've heard alot about film becoming damaged as a result of an inevitable ageing process. I've also heard you should store it in the fridge. My question is this: How long can I expect exposed but not developed film to stay good in the fridge? Or their any precautions against accidentally damaging my negative I should take? I thought it would be a good idea if I shot my film, went broke, earned more money and went on to post production maybe six months after principal photography. Is this a good idea?

Thanks Alot

I would advise against keeping the exposed film in the fridge for more than a day or so.

The reason is that processing is not all that expensive. Process the film and if you can't afford the transfer sit on the negative--Once the film has been developed it will last for years and years following some very basic storage techniques.

Good Luck

Cool

I think Kodak's official recommendation is that film should be processed within 72 hours after exposure. I seldom meet that deadline.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Many people do that. It's a good temporary economic solution. As long as you have a solid plan and stick to it.

Some minor problems can arise, though. Like for example, after viewing your developed footage you realize you must do some re-shoots and oh no! whered my cast go? Or oh shit, that location was demolished by a bulldozer!!!

You should keep un-exposed film in a fridge.

By the way Peter, your title is somewhat misleading.

Would you consider making it a more accurate statement by adding the word "UNPROCESSED film degrading and aging???"
